Looking for info on the timber sale East of Kid Valley
« on: May 16, 2011, 10:36:43 AM »
Was told that there was a huge private timber sale between Kid Valley and the observatory blocking access into the Margaret.  Would love some specifics before I put in for my permits.  I have made a lot of calls and have not gotten any answers.  Thanks. Jeff

How big of an area is it?   Does it block access into the unit off of Spirit Hwy?   Can I still legally hike back to Elk Lake?

No more high mountain lakes, its all private. That whole end from Shultz Creek to almost Miners creek is done. No Trespassing period, no walking, no biking, no horses.

That would sound right.  Before Weyerhaeuser sold it they picked the bows off the noble firs up there in the fall.

I heard from a reliable source that Dan Agnew was the one that purchased it, maybe under a company name... not sure.  I know everybody is bummed that whole area around Schultz Creek is "locked up," but the Margaret Unit is so much bigger than that.  It wouldn't phase me a bit to apply for a Margaret tag, even if I couldn't hunt Schultz Creek... matter of fact I'd avoid Schultz Creek even if I could hunt it just to get away from everybody that thinks that's the only place to kill a good bull.

That is the best part of that unit.  Talk to the biologists (I did last year) they'll tell you that's where they would have gone.

I just looked it up on the Cowlitz County GIS. This is the owner of all that land:

ST HELENS NOBLE FARMS LLC
PO BOX 579
CENTRALIA
WA

I see it being one of those PLWMA's in the near future. I wonder how much money those elk tags will sell for?

I have no info on that timber cut.
Is there a map of that shows the ST HELENS NOBLE FARMS property boundary? I had a cow tag there years ago and was in that area. After cutting up that elk and getting ready to leave. Had a heard of 30 plus elk cross the log road in front of me about a 100 yards away

Yes, just go to Cowlitz County's GIS map.

Thanks for the GIS idea.  Don't know why I didn't think of it.  The property boundaries differ from the gohunt public land.  GNF line runs North South right through Forest Lake.   So the Elk Lake area is public.  Was this an exchange with Weyer, or was it always public?
