Tenten is completely private and I bet the few good landholders there will charge a small fortune now too since they know that they have u by the balls if you draw. The unit is really being sectioned off and posted heavily now too.

4-0 never charged before.  They used to offer these same tags a couple of years ago (the tag was called the 4-0 Cattle Ranch Tag, not Grande Ronde Vista), then they stopped.  Are we sure that is what they are doing, or did someone call the ranch and ask about hunting and get told about a $1500 access fee?
Sounds to me like WDFW says that if you draw this tag, you can't be charged an access fee.  Similar to the Buckrun Tag.  If you just want to hunt Buckrun during the season, you pay.  If you draw the WDFW Tag, you don't...
...what am I missing...? :dunno:

I talked to the guy when I was down there 2 years ago and had a cow elk in camp and said he had paid a $1500 access fee to hunt when he drew the tag.. I think is says in the regs in fine print the landowner can charge a access fee. I know 4-O will they are quite protective of the land

I know a guy who's son drew the 4-0 cow tag 3 years ago.  I didn't think he paid an access fee.  I'll see him at church tomorrow and ask...

From what I just read in the meetings notes, it said that the landowner cannot charge for the public hunts that are in the state drawings.  Unless I'm missing something, they cannot charge if you draw the tag.

That's the way I understand it.  I know in the past, if you wanted to hunt the 4-0, you paid a hefty trespass fee, but if you drew the tag, I am pretty sure you didn't.  They stopped offering the tag last year (or the year before I think), but this Vista Tag sounds like the same thing...
Like I said, I think it is the same as Buckrun.  They get some sort of help from WDFW managing their herd and in return they give up so many tags to the public for free.  At least that's how I understood it... :dunno:

The Grande Ronde Vista Landowner Hunting Permits are different from the public special draw permits.  The LHP's are permits (including many trophy buck and bull) that the landowners can sell to the highest bidder or charge whatever "access fee" they choose.  Remember, it's illegal to charge someone for "hunting" our publically owned resources.  Just because the deer/elk are on private land... does not mean the landowner owns them.  We own them.  They get around this by charging "access, tresspass, rent, etc... fees.  It's BS!

In return for our WDFW pimping out numerous trophy buck and bull tags to these landowners, the landowners agree not to submit damage claims, and we (public) have an opportunity to apply for (a much fewer than the landowners get to pimp out) public special hunting permits.  And these landowners   CANNOT  charge a fee to hunt them.  They can only charge a fee for their LHP's or for anyone else wanting to "access" their property during general seasons.

I saw the guy at church but didn't get a chance to ask him today.  I'll drop him an email.  I still don't think that 4-0 charged him when he drew the tag.  Pretty sure he would have mentioned that because he was telling me that I should put my boy in for that hunt.

I talk to him all the time, just haven't been able to catch up with him since this question came up.  I thought I had his email address, but it must have been in my Army computer (which is gone now).  Next time I see him though, I'll ask...
