Just curious if anyone on here drew it last season and how that went, was it a real hunt or did someone show you the elk and say "shoot that one" or did you get free reighn in the hunt area? like i said just curious.. and bored..

I talked to 2 of the cow tag hunters, and neither were successful.  One is on here, not sure if he is still active or not.  They both told me that they divided up Turnbull in 4 zones, and gave real strict parameters on where you could hunt and where you could  not.  It was really odd, and they were both diss-appointed in how it worked out.

thats what i figured... its weird that they only let them hunt certain areas. especially when i see elk coming out of the opposite side of the reserve from the hunt zones every year..

To me, it seems like there are 3 herds on the refuge.

2 typically leave and go different directions, and the 3rd typically stays on the refuge.  Just my observation.

i could see that, i also think that there is a main herd that i often see always "on" refuge with animals forming smaller bands and moving around and eventually meeting back up with the herd. there is also a tyler herd that moves across i 90.

a really nice bull from that tyler herd got shmucked on i90 by a semi in september. he was big but hard to tell how many points since his rack was trashed. but had mass and long main beams.

I thought about applying for these tags last year but after reading all of the rules it sounded like a joke and I decided to not waste the time with it.  Not saying that it couldn't be a good hunt for someone but they don't let you scout it even.

I drew a turnbull archery tag last yr. there was no cover, the elk have  devoured every they can reach, this made it very hard  to get closer than 100yds, alot harder than
i thought it would be! I was in the lgst area, the elk were always in an area where  i could go! The rules of the hunt were very restrictive. I was unsuccessful.                 Argali
