Good track?
« on: May 24, 2011, 10:36:41 AM »
I was up fishing in Winthrop this last weekend and took an afternoon to go for a hike up in one of my favorite places. Could barely get there for the snow still on the ground. Anyway, I came across these tracks in the road. I'm not real experienced with bears and was curious if this was a good size animal? Seemed big to me. My bino's are 5.5" long and 5" wide and my boot is a #9. It was a deep print in fairly hard ground. They were solo tracks so I'm assuming a boar. I was hoping to run into him but no such luck.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

I would say good sized is about right. They look pretty deep as well as wide.

I heard somewhere that you can take the width of the pad and add one to it to get real close on how large the bear would square.  So if its 5 inches wide he would be a 6 foot bear.  By the picture I would say he is real close to that.  Good bear in my book.
