Savage Edge 25-06
« on: May 24, 2011, 08:34:28 AM »
Earlier this year I was out chasing some dogs and was having an issue with clean kills with my 223. I was shooting Remington Core Lokt 55gr rounds and for one reason or another I had a couple of yotes run off never to be found.

So I decided to upgrade to a 25-06 and after searching the local gun shops I found nothing so off to Cabelas where I found a couple of different models of 25-06. Now I try to be careful with my guns out in the field but it never fails they always end up with a few new dings or scratches at the end of the season. So I decided to shy away from the higher end rifles and found the Savage Edge. The gun that i bought has a composite stock with a camo finish with a black rough finish on the barrel, some thing that will be easy to touch up if it gets scratched. The trigger pull is a bit on the heavy side straight out of the box about 5 1/2 lbs on mine but after some work its a crisp 2.5lbs!

I have shot quite few yoties this year with it and am very happy with the gun! So if your out looking for a new gun to chase dogs with I would not hesitate to give this gun a look!

Looks like it is working well for you.  What bullet are you using and how is it on fur?  Whose decoys are those?  I use a Montana decoy late in the season.   I've been a fan of the Savage/Stevens rifles for a number of years now and have four set up for predator hunting to test different bullets.  Hope to run some 80gr Barnes TTSX in my 25-204 and 75gr X bullets in the 250 Sav.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I am shooting the 100gr Barnes TSX bullets and anything from 100 yards and beyond the hide is in good shape but broad side from under 100 and it does some damage! I try and shoot the dogs from a 100 yards or farther and let my buddy shoot 100 yards or closer.

If I can get a straight on chest shot in closer than 100 yards than I will take it because the bullet has yet to go all the way through them on those shots!

Right on man, nice work!

I bought an Edge in .243 about 6 months ago. Camo package with the Busnell 3-9x40. I've only shot about 60rds of some cheap (PPC? PPV?) ammo thru it at the range but I like it. It was pretty accurate right out of the box at about 1-1/2 inch group which is really good considering how I shoot! FC was going to adjust the trigger for me but it was not intended to be adjusted and so I think they put loc-tite on the screws or something? The thing that really p!$$ed me off was the darn scope bases were screwed in so tight that the heads stripped out and now I need to get them drilled out or something. *censored*!   :bash:

I'm looking for a predator rifle. What did the 25-06 set you back?

I had the same issue shooting one with my .223. He dropped like a stone then got up, spun around a few times and took off, I never found him. About a year ago I went to Cabela's and bought a new Stevens(Savage) 22-250, cost me $250 bucks with my gift card. I had the trigger done, the gun is lightweight, and it shoots well. That's all that matters. Someday I want to get that Savage 10 predator xp though. Good luck to ya!!
