JERKING THE TRIGGER

I have always loved shooting long distance and growing up in Western P.a on a farm gave me the opportunity to do alot of shooting ... Never had to break my arm come hay bailing season because I knew once it was all done I was going to be barning the barrel off my .243 shooting groundhogs ..I am writting this little story for those of you who are teaching someone to shoot ..when I was a kid 7or 8 my dad had us shooting alot and one day we were shooting my.243 on a bench and I was shooting about a 2 inch group @ 100 .. well I started getting angry because I should be doing better ..my dad said to me that you are jerking the dang trigger I said no I am not , he said yes you are so I get mad and take a little walk up the trail to calm my butt down ...when I return he says O.K get up here and take your time ..so I get up there and take a deep breathe and jerk the trigger :dunno:THE GUN GOES CLICK AND THE GUN RAISED OFF THE SAND BAGS AS SOON AS THE GUN CLICKED  HE PUT A FREAKEN EMPTY IN MY DANG GUN  AND turns and says NOW YOUR NOT JERKING THE TRIGGER  From that day on I never jerk the trigger and that memory is glued in my mind forever ...so next time you have a problem teaching someone how to shoot give that a try because I guarantee ya it will brake them

my friends dad used to that with me when i was shooting his 1911 he'd load up the mag and one in there would be a empty that he had reloaded without any powder and you could tell if you we jerking the trigger or anticipating recoil

We had an exercise we did in the military that would teach good trigger control. Get into a good steady supported shooting position. Have the weapon unloaded and a snap cap in the chamber. Have a helper place a dime or small washer on the end of the barrel. You should be able to squeeze the trigger and "fire" the weapon with out the dime/washer falling off. Give it a try, you will see an increase in your accuracy.

Oh yeah, this is so true. I was the worlds worst pistol shot anyway when I decided to escalate to a 44 mag. Youthful visions of bore hunting with my bow clouded my judgment then.  I couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn when I first got it.  It intimidated the heck out of me. Then one night the family went back home on vacation and I decided I’m going shooting. I enjoy a good challenge and that 44 was just the thing. I dry fired it the night before I went shooting so I could feel every thing. The trigger squeeze, weight and my own stance. Boy oh boy, that was all it took. I was hitting targets at 100 yards after that.

Take a thumb tack stick it through tape and tape it to the trigger. You will only jerk the trigger once and you will cure your problem.
