First Mount
« on: June 12, 2011, 09:14:45 AM »
I got my elk back a couple of weeks ago that I shot last sept. Its my first mount I've ever had done, due to the fact I've never shot anything big enough to spend the money on. I personally think it turned out good but I am not very experienced in the details of taxidermy.I know the details of the eyes are very important and these eyes look very realistic. They follow you around as you walk through the room. Anyway, here it is, tell me what you think. He has my buck from last year and also my buddy's bear that he is doing a life size mount also. I will post pictures of those when we get them back.

That is funny waldo. My mom said the same thing :chuckle:
elkaholic I looked back in my post and I guess I never really posted the story. So here is the condensed version.
I knew where the elk had been feeding in the morning, so I got up there way before dark. There were two bulls bugling on opposite ridges. So just as the sun was coming up I started heading to the closest one just to see him walk into a thick stand of timber with his cows about 100 yds. behind him. So I bugled and cow called a couple of times and he came running back down to within 40 and tore up a little sapling, my first shot was at 35 yds. and missed low. I bugled and he came right back to the same tree, this time I connected at 40 yds. he only went about 60 yds and layed down. Oh did I mention I was standing on the road the whole time and was able to back the truck close enough to drag him out whole. The stars were aligned for me that day. Sorry, not much of a condensed version.
