Grande Ronde Vista Boundaries?
« on: June 22, 2011, 08:59:04 AM »
I was drawn for a Mountain View cow tag.  This tag is good for Elk Area 1013, which is all of GMU-172, excluding the National Forest land.  I know that the "Grande Ronde Vista" hunting area also lies within Elk Area 1013. Does anyone know what the boundaries of the Grande Ronde Vista are? I have been scouring the internet looking for any indication of what the GRV boundaries are and haven't been able to find anything on this area.  I just want to know what the boundaries of this area are because I know it will essentially be "off limits" to me (unless I wanted to pay them... which I definitely do not) and I want to have the area marked on my maps, so I know where to aviod.  I have been hunting Lick Creek, and Mountain View inside the National Forest for 15 years and have successfully hunted the Couse area with a cow tag, I also raft the Grande Ronde every year so I know the area very well, and I know the general vicinity of where the 4-0 land is I am just looking for more detailed info on the newly formed GRV area.  Any info anyone has on this area would be much appreciated.

I drew a tag for GRV and have also been trying to find the ranch boundaries (not a fee hunt, a draw) so if you find anything I would certainly appreciate a heads up.  I will do the same for you.

I would bet money the GRV is the 4-O Cattle Company. The hunt is laid out the same as in past years.  I had a cow tag there about 9 years ago and the property was posted very well. Anderson, it may be worth your time calling the # in the regs for the GRV to see about access. When we were there that was about the only place the elk were found.

Grande Ronde Vista is the 4-O cattle company and two other land owners on the Grouse Flats side.  If you have a tag call the # in the hunting regs after August 1st.  If you have a 1013 tag it is going to be tough finding access down there unless you know a land owner.  There is about 600 acres of WDFW land on Grouse flats and another 640 acres of school land in Cottonwood creek canyon (steep!, but can have elk).  Other than that most of the land is private.
"Shoot the spike".  It's much easier to pack out!

I also drew the GRV cow tag, Dec 31-Jan 6, and have been having trouble finding info on boundaries.  Does anyone know who the other two landowners are?  I cant wait to slide an elk down the hilside on a tobogan.
Go Cougs!

Thanks for the info guys. My dad and I hunted the Couse unit for cows about 6 years ago and found that the farmers up around Anatone were very helpful when it came to cow hunting.
B.G.hunter - I know where that School land is, but have never been into it.  Do you know if you can drive to it?  I was planning on hiking into it from the National forest side to do some scouting, but being able to drive to it would be nice.
