New bow sight! Wow!
« on: June 07, 2008, 07:39:29 PM »
So, I finally got tired of my cheapy Tru-glo 5 pin sight.  Been having issues with all the pins, and for some reason, pins coming from the side always cause me to pull my shots to the right.  I was surfing ebay and found a King Cobra 1 in mystic camo for $40, so I bid and won it.  Just finished setting it up and flinging a few at 10 then 20 yards.  Wow!  What a difference a good sight makes!  The pin is almost too bright, but I can cover some of the fiber to fix that.  Onece I found the correct slider adjustment for each yardage, I was drilling the 5 spot.  Shot better then I have since I started with a bow back in February.  Shot a 20 out of 30, and for me that is fantastic!  I am sure it will get better as I adjust to the new sight.

Now I need to head to Kenmore and get the longer range pins sighted in.  Want to go out to 60 yards, just for fun.  Cannot see ever attempting that long on an animal!  :yike:

If you get a chance, check out the sight.  Retail at the Nock is $110, so even if I decide I want to change I am not out much.

thats a good sight and at a steal.

those guys who sight in at 60yds are just nuts. i couldnt imagine taking that long of a shot. so stick with 3pins 20, 30, 40yds. if i cant get within 40yds there is something seriously wrong with me. plus i can only shoot to 40yds at my house. lol

I agree.  I cannot imagine taking a shot at game that far, but I know some of the 3D ranges have some long range fun shots.  I sighted it in at 20, will set the 30 tomorrow (max at my house) and lock it down for hunting.  Will be in the kill zone from 5-35.  On my 5 pin, I set it at 20-50, but used my 20 for everything out to 30+.  Finally just slid the other pins to the bottom and used just a 20 and 30.  Could be in the kill out to 40 with those two on the new bow.

More than anything for me it was to get a single vertical pin to see if my shooting improved.  Thought about a Trophy Ridge flatliner, but got such a steal on the Cobra I could not pass it up.  I honestly thought I would be out bid.

yeah at that price i would think so too.

im still trying to figure out what rest and sight to get on my bow. im getting such a great deal on the bow that i feel obligated to dumb a crap load of money on the rest and sight and stuff. lol

i was thinking about a 1 pin sight, set at 25yds. i never have the need to shoot past 30yds anyway.

I really like the Spott-Hog with the long dovetail mount, but man is it expensive.  Will stick with my Cobra for this year at least.  No need to seetle on a good stabilizer and a better bow mount quiver.  The Martin one I got in my package is to heavy and sits way off the bow with the new sight.

yeah i like everything nice and compact to the bow. i had an alpine on my parker and didnt like it cause it was just bulky looking.

i might go with a hip quiver this year and keep things simply on the bow. not to mention when i want take the stickbow out ill have a quiver for that too.

I have the Cat Mini Quiver I used during Turkey Hunting, but not too satisfied with it.  Holds arrows well, but kind of a pain to carry and access.  Another $55 down the drain I probably will not use again.

Looking the Alpine Sof-Lock.  Seems lower profile and the have a hip quiver attachment as well that can be rotated to any angle and set.

Did you have the sof-lock?
Was it bulky on the bow too?  That is my biggest issue with two of the quivers I have had is how bulky they fit on the bow.

I use the alpine 5 arrow soft loc quiver and I have had good luck with it over the past few years.  Its quiet, and easy to use while taking it on and off.

And as for the sight... I use a Spot Hogg 7 deadly pin with the hawg wrap and wouldn't trade it for anything else!  I don't think it's ethical to take a shot out at 60 or 70 or even 80 on the first shot but if I have stuck one and need to get another arrow in one it's an accurate way to do it having those pins.

Just cannot seem to find a quiver I like on my bow.  May need to go to a 2 piece........
I have not tried a hip quiver yet.  Hear lots of mixed opinions on them.  Thinking of selling my Cat I quiver, since it does not quite meet my needs.  It is a great quiver, just not what I was looking for.  Hunted with it twice during Turkey, and with everything else I was carrying, it just seemed to get in the way all the time.  Maybe if tied to my pack it would be better, instead of using the shoulder strap.

What kind of stabilizer are you guys using?  I have the Sims S-coil and the Sims Modular and combine them to add or remove weight, but not that happy with them either.

Guess I am just hard to please. :chuckle:

i have used a old school leather hip quiver when i first started archery hunting. but it wasnt really secure and it got in the way alot.

i think im gonna try a hip quiver or back quiver this year.
