Late Mule Deer Tag
« on: June 18, 2011, 02:00:24 PM »
Hello, I was the lucky guy that got the 1 rifle tag for late Mule deer in the 49 Degrees North unit from Nov 19-23 and am just checking for some advice on this area. I have hunted this area for white tail but not mule deer.

Did you find any mulies while hunting whitetails?

Welcome to the site and congrats on drawing a permit.

Hey you got my permit  :chuckle:. Most all of the higher elevations in that unit contain mule deer!  During the rut it should not be a problem finding one and he will be easy to shoot :)

If you look where they are, you should be able to see them.  If you can't, the new thing to do is get 10 or 12 strangers to come help you see them.  They point them out for you, and you shoot.  It's a very rewarding type of hunt.  Good luck!

Take the Flowery Trail Road east out of Chewelah.  On the map you will find good mulie country to hunt between Calispell Peak south to the ski area.  Good access points are road 9521 toward Calispell Peak or Winchester Creek Road #9518 to access the country south.  It is all high country and holds some nice mulies.  Great place to bump into a moose as well.  Good luck and happy hunting.  My brother and I drew the Pearrygin late hunt tags last year and were lucky enough to drop a couple of 28 inch bucks.

Isn't that a quality permit? If so it couldn't have been your 4th choice. They only allow 2.

With 3 posts under your belt I'd suggest you hit the trails and do some additional scouting and then come back for some more advice with specific areas in mind... A lot of posts like this don't end up drawing a ton of good advice unless folks see that you have worn out the tread on your boots a little more. Good luck and congrats!

:yeah:  the only thing I think people should consider is that not everyone posts every chance they get on this website.  Some, like myself, just like reviewing the posts unless we have direct experience or knowledge on the topic posted.  Posting for posting is a  :bdid:

There is some truth to that, but with 50 identical posts each year at about this time a lot are discarded by the regular posters, many of which have very good experience in some of the units in question. The more specific the question, the better received, it seems.
