Deer Migration Routes

Where would i find a map or something on the web. That has the deer migration routes??

I know of a good Blacktail rout but that goes to the grave with me.

I would bet there probably have been some studies on radio collared deer used to track their migration routes. I know where I hunt in Idaho the whitetails migrate out of the High Country to winter near Grangeville & their migration has been studied by using collared deer. Good Luck & let me know if you find anything for E. WA deer. You may also want to check with area biologists.

That's a good book.  Don Zeigler, author.  Out of print, I think, but I've seen used copies for sale.

I would bet that if you did a little looking, you could find something like that for a few areas in Washington too. I would also bet you'd find it in a place you would not expect it to be found. As in...I'd bet it wasn't put out by the game dept.

If you really want to learn about the migration habits of Okanogan mule deer, read Zeigler's book.  Then learn to read a topographical map.  If they're moving, mulies usually travel the path of least resistance, just like humans -- as long as there is good cover.

True, Zeigler was a game dept. employee, but the book is thorough and complete.  Possibly the best resource for hunters ever developed by the WDFW.

I have read the book, and it gave me a better understanding of Okanogan mule deer, and their habits.

How many have read Zeigler's book?

Thompson Ridge in the Gardner unit used to be a route back in the day (30 years ago). It's pretty slim pickings these days though.
