Predator Quest with Les Johnson
« on: July 04, 2011, 06:37:24 PM »
What do you guys think of this " Champion Predator Caller " ? I think he stinks. It's the same call sounds, the same show over and over again. It's not entertaining, not informative, he skylines every time he walks into a setup. Where did this guy come from and why is he a champ ? He does everything wrong in my opinion. AND, he's got a TV show.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

You don't kill near the amount he does.  The Johnson's were winning major contests for years before he ended up with a show.  Like all shows there are scenes that need to be shot for filler.  If you take away anything from his show, you should realize that the same sounds will consistently call in animals.  He did a video before Predator Quest that was really well done.  It had a lot of shotgun work, good shots of set-ups, and you could learn a lot about contest hunting.  I have no idea what it is called as it has been a long time since I saw it.  From what I have heard, he has become a lot more humble in the past couple years after losing some sponsors to poor decisions and cockiness.  That doesn't take away from the fact that he is a great coyote hunter.

So do I but I think he's pretty good. I like the way his calling sounds, its a little different from anything I have heard. I enjoy the show but think they could show more action.

The show just seems the same o, same o. Nothing different from the last one. It's just plain boring to me. I must be missing something then.

I can't comment on the show, since I have never watched it.  I was just defending Les Johnson, and telling you why he was a champion, and a great coyote hunter.  You said he stinks and does everything wrong, and wondered why he got a show.  I haven't found many hunting shows that I actually enjoy watching.  I used to really enjoy the "Get Wild" with Cindy Garrison because she was a heck of a hunter, easy on the eyes, and a major part of the show was an adventure with the local culture, not hunting.

I use to watch it but to many fake cut aways and way to boring. I also heard about a few of his demands threw a few companies  :chuckle: They were pretty crazy. There is no doubt he can call yotes and does a good job with that. His ego and head got way to big and it exploded when he got dropped by most his sponsors.

the few times i watched his show i thought it was just another coyote hunting show; we have all seen coyotes get called in and shot whether or tv or in the field, what i liked about les' show is that he actually took some time to explain why this sound or that tricked worked to bring that coyote in, instead of simply showing 15 coyotes get shot in a 30 minute show.

besides how exciting do you expect a coyote hunting show to be or any hunting show for that matter?

I didn't say, " he stinks and does everything wrong ". Since you've never watched the show , you really can't say much about it.

Predator Nation is a way better show IMO.  Alot more action and better host. And its not just all coyotes. He shoots bobs, cougars, bears, hogs and exotics.

First couple season are available online.  I enjoyed the show and learned some thing when I first started predator calling.

Les or any hunting show for that matter should go to more depth about what it took to get the animal rather than just a walk in, a shot, and a dead anuimal.
