Lifted Truck and Camper Question

I have a 99 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.2 gas motor. Great truck problem is once I hook up my trailer and jeep it has no power. So I"ve decided to get a diesel. I found a 2002 F-350 with the power stroke for a decent price. The truck has 104,000 miles on it and a 6 inch lift maybe 8 inch, I havent looked at the truck in person yet (this weekend) only drove by and checked it out online. So heres my question next year we are going to get a camper not sure if we are going to get an 8' or 9' has anyone put a camper on a lifted truck, how does it handle.  Thanks

I haven't, but, I've driven heavy haul semi trucks for 20 years. It will be top heavy and a rollover hazard to beat hell. You can take the lift off and put it back to factory. But that will be more money for you to spend. Plus, to unload a camper with that big of a lift, it will be a problem, big time.

Campmeat hit the nail on the head there, lifted trucks and campers don't mix, they are fine for trailers.

I dont have one but my father-in-law has a 08 duramax with a 6" and 36 in tires and he put his 9' camper on and does just fine.  Yes it is very top heavy but he also doesnt take it off road either.  When we take it out its only usually to designated camp sites that are flat.  When he unloads it he has blocks that are cut from 8x8 beams to set the legs on. Very easy to unload.

A dually truck will help with it not being so tippsy, but with big tires, lift, camper and trailer, don't expect any sort of fuel mileage out of it. I have a friend with a simular set up, he lowered the lift btu kept with the bigger tires and he isnly getting 12-14mpg. H wish he would have stayied stock with it, but oh, well.

Look for a camper that is not so top heavy. Lance are great campers but are very top heavy.

Campers are all the same with gravity etc. The truck is what is gonna cause the problem. The higher the truck goes, the more of a  rollover problem there is. Really think about a truck with a 6-8 lift. You will have problems with it.

father inlaw had a slight lift on his pu & put a camper on it, granted it was an older unit & maybe a little heavy but nobody would ride in the pu with it loaded. the center of gravety ( roll center) was to high & even cornering in town you felt you were going to tip. ive had lifted pu's all my life, great for ground clearance but i sure wouldent put a camper on one.
