Finally squeezed in some fishing this past weekend!
« on: July 07, 2011, 11:38:52 AM »
Finally got a chance to squeeze in some fishing this year and the kids were excited.  We set camp close to midnight Friday night and I was up just before the sun cracked Saturday with the rod and reel.  I caught six and the my 2 boys caught 1 apiece and my step-daughter caught 1 as well.  Since it was all 3 of their 1st catches we have to share the catches with the elders in the family and have a ceremony in honor of the catches.

My oldest son and step-daughter reeled them in on their own, netted and gave them a club.  My youngest son did everything but I held the pole with 1 hand and let the fish give him a fight.  He was struggling, grunting, leaning into it, reeling and giving everything he had and man did he love it.  I netted it for him but he did the honors of clubbing it.

My oldest son was camera shy but not the other 2.

Afterwards they all learned how to cut and clean the fish and also how to prepare them to eat.  I brought in 6 myself and then we rushed home to get ready for the family BBQ for the 4th.  Great weekend for the kids and I don't know when we'll get the chance to go again but it was all worth it.

Nice looking kids and fish. Time with the kids is time well spent.
