I have hunted upland birds out of the desert unit most my life and never kicked up any mulies. I been Drawn for the desert unit archery buck hunt this year for late November and I'm looking for any information putting me on that buck of a life time. This is my very first special draw hunt so I'm taking it pretty serious. Thanks!

I used to pheasant hunt over there and saw some nice bucks while bird hunting several times.  The areas where I kicked up bucks were east of Dodson Road.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

I hunted that area 3 or 4 times last year for birds, each time out, we kicked up muleys, bucks and does. We never saw any bruisers, but I have heard stories. The terrain ungulates so much, there are a ton of places to "hide" for those buggers.

I don't hunt deer, but last few times there I saw more deer than pheasants.

East of Dodson.  You'll find a few in the scattered potholes out there.  They hid in the cattails and are almost impossible to see until you jump them.  Go sit on one of the sand dunes and glass the russian olives by the wasteway.  Theres a ton of deer in that whole area, seeing and finding them is an ordeal.

Go up in the sand dunes. They are every where in the heavy willows that time of year.
Stan Marsh: "My Uncle Jimbo says we gotta get up there early. Right Uncle Jimbo?"

Jimbo: "That's right, Stanley. Animals are much easier to shoot in the morning."

Seems like all the bucks I mount from the desert and surrounding areas are always peppered with birdshot, some with pretty tight patterns. I wonder if the Bird hunters just get excited or what  :chuckle: Guess they dont realize the birdshot wont kill them.

Yup, I see a few deer out there. Getting to be more splattered on I-90 between mp 174 and 160.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!
