The big numbers have not showed yet.  Usually it is over by this time.  I checked the fish count website and there was only 2K a day.  To be good you need somewhere around 10K.  They should start soon, the lower dams are seeing big numbers.  I would think it will be full swing by the 25th of July.

I've been slaying em....

Been hot for 2 weeks, hasn't slowed down any.  Fishing below McNary.

We got a boat load of them on Saturday below McNary.  Chartreuse Shad Killers were pretty hot.   Only kept the largest ones.  They are sure a kick in the a$$ to catch.

Shad are the boniest fish I have ever come across so I like to can them to dissolve the bones and use them like tuna.   Our family also likes the roe gently poached in butter with capers and lemon or breaded and gently fried.   They make great crab pot bait too.  I have seen quit a few recipes for pickling shad....but not too sure we'd like pickled fish.

Crud!  I went a weekend too early  :bash:.  I hit the John day last weekend of June and got skunked! This fishing was slow and my girlfriend wanted to sight see so we left early after only about a half hour of fishing.

We were accidentally snagging them left and right when we were below Mcnary walleye fishing last weekend. It looks like they're all stopping at Mcnary this year, lots of fish there but counts at Ice Harbor are low.

exactly.  Ice Harbor has not had a big number day yet.  Nothing over 10K like it usually gets.

What's it like at McNary, is there places to fish from the bank, How would it be for kids (7-12) ?? I'd like to make a trip with the kids and think it would be fun, also for walleyes too !!

not much for bank fishing.... you could do it with a small boat though. Last weekend there was a guy out in one of those 1 person pontoon boats.
