Fit to Hunt?
« on: July 17, 2011, 07:47:48 AM »
Hello everyone. I was just currious how are you guys preparing for this up coming season. For me I like to build my endurance and strenght as much as possible so when I go out, being physically fit is one less thing I have to worry about. Because, I like to push my bounderies further every year I go elk hunting. I try to go beyond the trail less travelled to find deer and elk. Right now I completted the Sound to Narrows, Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon and Seattle to Portland with my bike.  I will be going to the gym next and build on my strenght, I will also start backcountry backpacking increasing the weight of my pack every time I go out. I saw Cameron Hane's video on youtube and it lit up a fire inside me and got me all motivated. This year I will go harder, further and stay out longer than any of my buddies at Elk Camp to find my elk. I hope that I connect this year with my bow. I am excited. Below are some photos of my efforts. Happy Hunting!!! :IBCOOL:

You know what they say about hunting fitness?

"He with the fittest legs, carries the hind quarter"  :chuckle:

Hunting hasnt been exactly harsh on me as far as fitness goes the last couple years but this year i'm hoping to do a chamois hunt in the Alps.

So in combination of training for the hunt, and training for crosstraining i've stepped up the running, jiu jitsu rolling 3 times a week, wieghts 5 days a week, and a ruck once a week.  It's been awesome. I put on 15 pounds when i got down here without gaining any inches on the waist and then my waist measurment dropped and my weight stayed the same so i'm getting leaner. A meat carrying machine.

gotta get the right tunes and the right mind set going  ;)
