This morning I went to check my trailcam, and after that, I went scouting a nearby area for coyotes. When I was on the way back, within sight of the rig, I sat down to rest, and blew some howls on my RR howler, and some prey raspys, also on an RR call. I was nowhere near prepared or well hidden, and to my surprise, I got some distant replys. We kept howling back and forth, and soon the pack was real close. Evidently, while I was fidgeting for my face mask and gloves, they spotted me or my rig and clammed up. Scratch another coyote shoot!
Part of my problem is that I'm deaf in one ear, and can't pinpoint where sound is coming from. They sounded real close, but I never saw any of them. I've come to the conclusion that I'm better at calling them in than shooting them!
