there is alot of different answers to this question. what it really boils down to is how good a shot you are, and how willing you are to wait for a good shot opening. if you practice once a year and take risky shots i would get the biggest cutting diameter blade you can get. if your a good shot and take good shots i use muzzy 3 blades 100 grain and ive never had a deer go over 60 yards. that being said montecs and shuttle-t are "supposed to" shoot like field points. but ive never had a problem with muzzys and im not gonna spend 30 for 3 when i can get 6 for 30 and they work the same when you put it in the right spot. also i like the fact i can buy the replacement blades and just change out the blades. everyone misses at least once in there life for some dang reason and its great that all i have to do is throw some new blades in.
they call me the bloodhound cause i can track a wounded animal in the rain for 2 days when all it has is a splinter.. sniff sniff awooo

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions. I will definitely check out some of the arrows that were brought up more than once. Oh and my draw length is 27.5 at 70#, for those of you that asked. I appreciate everyone who commented on my post. Thanks again!

It may be too late to suggest this but, if you're looking to buy Carbon Express arrows, go to wal mart and pick up their arrows.  They are made by Carbon Express and renamed for sale at Wal Mart.  I confirmed this with Carbon Express last year.  Call them up and ask them what the wal mart equivalent of the Mayhem's are.  I went with the Wolverine Hunter which is the wal mart equivalent of the CE Terminator Hunter.  Full retail price right now is $5 each.  Hit them after the season and you can find them for $2 each.
                                                                                                                                                                                           Really?!?!

Yup.  100% true.  They are Carbon Express at a fraction of the price.

For 27.5 inch draw length at 70 lbs for the 2011 Bear Mauler:  You could choose Carbon Express Mayhem 350's: cut to 28 1/8 inch with blazer vanes topped with a 100 grain broadhead.  This only gives you 10.5% FOC.  If you topped it with a 125 grain broadhead, you would need your arrows pretty close to your draw length (27.5 inches) but would give you a 12.9% FOC (a better broadhead flight).  If you drop your draw weight down a little (say 68 lbs), you could cut your arrows to an even 28 inches and still have a 12.8% FOC.  Depending on things like nock weight, wraps, vanes, inserts, etc those numbers would change slightly, but that's the ballpark.

Thanks Jechicdr! You are alot of help. Any suggestions on where I should get my bow set up at? I was thinking either The Nock Point in Mountlake Terrace or Van Winkles Archery in Everett. Thanks again for all your help.

I like muzzys except I feel like only a couple in a pack of six shoot consistently like my field points, and then some are all over the place, have you had this problem?

not very often, if that happens just mix the blade order up. i find if i align the blades with fletching they shoot extremely well. if you look at the ones that arent shooting well ill bet they arent aligned.

I've shot expensive carbon express arrows before, they actually seemed to crack and break pretty darn easy.  I shoot your cheap gold tip XT's now and I must say I am pretty happy with them.  The straitness tolerance isn't as good as the express arrows, but man I haven't noticed much of a difference if any.  I say save the money and buy some golds.  I like wasps, and magnus stingers for broadheads.

I've shot 6 elk and probably close to 20 deer with gold tip xt's.   I think they are a great hunting arrow.

:yeah: i shot c.e. for a while to. i was blowing up arrows almost every trip out. switched to epics after that and they were way tougher, since then i have switched to st. axis and they are the toughest i have found. i also shot gt pro's and they were tough as nails also.
