New Bugle

I just got one of Rockies Rut buster bugles.  I have a monarch tube but wanted something a little smaller.  Anyone have one...likes dislikes...........Thoughts?

Any customization tips?

I bought one of Elknut's recent bugles.  I havent had much time to play with it (no not that) but will soon.  Mine is very light and sounds great, but I need practice.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to elk calling.  I attribute any success I've had to the blind squirrel tripping over a nut scenario.  I'd really be interested if someone could give some practical advice on elk calling (when to buggle vs. cow call, how often, etc, etc.).

Rockie's calls (IMO) are some of the best made!  The rut buster is a good bugle - smaller, lightweight, and easy to use.  It's great for putting in your pack and hiking in so it doesn't take up a lot of room.  I am not a fan of the noise it makes when extending it though, and I don't feel that you get as good of sound travel with it?  But other than that its a great tube and very easy to use. 

I never use his mouth pieces that come on the end of the bugle's though as I am a fan of reeds so I can change volume and adjust the calls easier.  This would be something I would absolutely recommend using with the rut buster!  Some people cannot use diaphragms but he has made the tone tops which are easier to use for those who are looking to learn.

As for the monarch tube is concerned it was my favorite because of sound until the new bully bull tube came in the mail!  That tube is smaller than the monarch and sounds even better in my opinion for magnification of the sound.  It will be my bugle of choise this year for sure!

I like the brown red yellow reeds not so much the green....Love my monarch tube but its kind of bulky for the pack and quick use on the move thats why I got the smaller one we shall see

I like all 3 of those reeds as well!  The green one is just harder to use and it doesn't give me the sounds as the other 3 do?   The brown one is by far the most versitle and easiest to use because it can make every sound in the book!

Guess you just need to know what your doing with the green cause I started using it more than the brown . Just kiddin, Brown #1 , green #2, Red #2 1/2. I dont think there is a better reed than Rockies!!

 Passion, the Monarch has very good sound for sure!! The Rut Buster in all honesty is a poor sounding bugle more in comparison with the primos pack bugle! It's quite a down slide from your Monarch! You have both, what do you think? The thing with the Monarch is its size & weight. Too, it cannot be used very easily at all with one hand, I'm sure you've noticed that?

  I certainly agree with many here as well that Rockies calls are very good!! The Mini Master, Raging Bull & Scream N Tormentor are the ones that hunters pick up from us mostly!

 The new Bugle we have is called the Chuckler Bugle, it's made by me & already Customized & ready to go! It's for the mouth diaphragm user & sports sound dead equal with the cutomized Monarch but has better sound than a Monarch just in the package. . It is not an external reeded bugle! The difference is, it's only 5.6oz compared to the Monarchs 22oz & it's easily used with one hand operation, it has a no sag build to it even though you can bend it to call in any direction, it's barrel end is 3 1/4" & has 4 tone dampeners on it for best quality sounds & no plastic ring to it at all. I like the Monarch but it requires two hand operation & in many instances guys have their bows in their left hands & their bugles in their right when in a close encounter with a bull. This new Chuckler is what I call a point & call Bugle! This bugle is of World Championship caliber!! It's only 29.95 compared to the 50.00 Monarch on our Site. I built this bugle for the hunter in mind!!

Well I just got the tube in the mail and am pretty happy with it. The sound is definitely not as good as the monarch but it fits in the side pocket of my badlands super day pack which is exactly what I wanted. 

The sounds are pretty limited but for the size I can't complain. Between it and my reed calls and the hoochie mama I should be able to find something that gets em going

I like my 16" chunk of 1 1/2" black schedule 40 ABS. I can beat the hell out of a tree with it and it sounds just like antler. It's not tinny because it's schedule 40 and if I lose it, it's cheap to replace. I even made one with a bell end using reducers.
