how the shiras moose came to be?

as an avid student of the American west and exploration, i have noticed that there is no real mention of moose in the old diairies and journals of the trappers and such. not even lewis and clarke, who were very fastidious in their zoological and botanical observations.. did shiras moose migrate south from alberta and sask and bc? and if they did, why are the body and horn confirmations so much different than canada moose, alaskan yukon moose, etc etc?

I never knew there wasn't really an historical account of them.  I would assume it is just a biological adaptation to their enviroment

It appears they were not even classified until 1914 as a seperate sub-family.
Their is historical records of Moose from the Algonquian (North American Indian) dating back centuries.

Still not finding any mention of how they came about to be a different classification though.......

moose maybe, but not shiras moose, right? probably a canada moose?

It says Moose in the America.  They were not classified as a different specias from the Manitoba Mosse until 1914.  I cannot find anything about why they are different causing them to be classified as Shiras.............

Anyone else find anything??

I actually prefer Yukon Moose to Alaska Yukon moose and I prefer both of those to the Shiras Moose.

I never eaten Canadian Newfoundland Moose.
