tips on setting up ground blind in food plot area for deer and elk

i have been scouting a food plot area that has nice bucks and bulls and want to set up a ground blind for bow season, any advice on how to do it and not scare the deer and elk away? Any advice would be great, i am hunting new areas and have had quality animals in the area just want to put out a blind but dont want the regulars to get spooked.

im having the same situation. i got offered an importunity to hunt some private lands with lots of elk on them that unrolling hay bales. i plan on making a hay bale blind. and the smell shouldnt be an issue since the farmers are out there all the time and they constantly unroll new bales.

if you let them get used to the blind early enough then it shouldnt be a problem. i do it for white tails and have had great success. i like treestands the best though. easy to move if the game changes patterns and they dont seem to be as scared of movement in a tree as something at eye level. just my experiences

I set mine up 2 weeks ahead of time for mule deer. I am not sure what kind of brush you got around were you are going to set your blind up at but I hunt a lot of sage so my blind looks like a sage brush bush. Spend time brushing it out make sure you got clear shots out of it and that you can see . Just my

Thanks everyone for the input. I have this plot on public land and would like to set up the blind now and let them get used to it but, i dont want my blind and my cam to get stolen.

If you have a new blind set it up in some dry dirt and throw dirt all over it. Than rub the dirt in. Shake off loose and repack.
Put your blind in the shadows if possible. Figure where sun will be at time of day you are hunting. Also prevailing wind. Use your favorite scent killer on the blind and around it each time you visit it. Some of the vegitation in front of it and on top if possible. try to have brush or something natural which is bigger behind the blind.

This was Turkey hunting this year. The hole in the front window was from shooting a spike elk who was standing 6 inches away last year. Almost burnt the blind down with my smoke pole.

is a treestand a choice? u can get away with alot more with winds swirling up in the air

A treestand could be possible but it is pretty thick timber it would take a lot of work to clear a shooting path, hoping to make a ground blind work or spot and stalk.

what are you food plotting with?  i bought some and it ended up not to be eaten once yet, but i do have some huge radishes....

going apple trees next year.
