Risk things? Like what? Obviously you can do whatever you want but it's just not necesary on a .243.

Its not all about recoil. What if you drop it? I like the one piece positive mounting system to help eliminate movement. I have witnessed the Tikka bases moving after a slight fall. They loosened right up. Brother in law had to head back to camp and spend half a day and $25 on ammo to get it sighted back in. It was not the scope, it was the bases. They are just not built for recoil and being beat around.

Based on my experience with Tikkas .30 cal and larger need the after market rings. I like the talley lightweights. Hear good things about Deadnutz, Burris too

There are no bases on Tikkas unless you add them.

              " Tikka bases"
I been packing them around for 10 years in many cartridges, I know many others who do also. tikka rings work fine on every one, from caribou to coyotes to arizona and the yukon. that is my experience not my opinion. :chuckle:

The factory rings are great for non magnums. I don't trust them on mags but use them on all our standard caliber tikkas.

I am by no means easy on mine and I haven't had to tighten or adjust anything since I sighted it in 5 years ago.  I beat the bush, hike the mountains, and do fall on my face from time to time as well, but no problems with the rings to date. :dunno:
