6mm BR Savage Striker is finally done
« on: August 13, 2011, 08:55:11 PM »
It's behind schedule, over budget, and not exactly what I initially envisioned, but it's done and I like it! ;D

Here's the spec list:
-Neal Cooper stock (painted by me)
-Benchmark 19" nitrided, 1-7.5" twist 6mm BR tapered to .90" at the muzzle
-Savage PTA T&T by SSS
-Leupold Mk 4 6.5-20x50
\

I won't have a chance to shoot it for another week or two, but I'm pretty excited about it. I'm over budget by nearly $1000, but a good chunk of that was the scope. I originally planned to have the stock air brushed with a wood grain finish, but it just didn't look right when it was done. So I painted it black and then sprayed on a smoke gray finish in between clear coats to give it a smokey, cloud like look. It just isn't showing up well in the pics.

Now to see how it shoots.

Some guy on Savageshooters built an identical one, I think I like his better  :)

Very nice. I have been thinking about building one in 243 as a easy packing coyote rifle.

BTW, why is SSS (S S S) censored?
Never, ever let Creed hold you baby, it will ruin it and you will have to get another.

That guy on SavageShooters has great tastes in guns. I hear he's a lousy shot though. :chuckle:

The S S S stands for Sharp Shooter Supply . I think it's censored because of the guys shooting wolves and using the shoot, shovel, and shut up term to describe their poaching. :bdid:  >:(

I built this because I bet a guy that I could build a pistol that would out shoot any of his rifles. If I don't win, this gun just got $200 more expensive. :chuckle: Either way it should make a pretty good hunting gun, even though it weighs just over 10lb.

It better! In the time it took to get this project finished I bought 3 guns, built 2 other guns, and I'm half way through building a third.

Yep a mk4 will do that on a build

I normally wouldn't cough up this kind of money for a scope. Honestly, it's a great scope, but I don't think it's worth twice as much as a VX 3. I only bought it because the I got it at cost + tax. Which still wasn't cheap! :yike: As soon as my 375 Rum Improved is finished, the MK4 is getting moved to that rifle. I'll come up with something different to put on the Striker then.

Agree 100%, I have shot guns with the mk4's. I have a lot of the vx3's and the mk4's are not worth the extra money in my mind. Plus all the extra money you save getting the vx3 will help start another project or get a lot of reloading supplies LOL
