You don't need to see elk to practice.

My neighbors think there is an Elk herd around my house. Lol Im always practicing around the house and in route to work and back. You don't need Elk to practice, or be good at it.

Lol awsome, neighbor kid has been good bout not throwin any partys lately so iill cut him some slack. Plus the neighbors play that darn mariachi music when they have partys/get to gethers so if i gotta listen to that all day i figure they can listen to my cow and bugle practices couple times a day for a couple weeks.

:yeah:

Don't let the park employees catch you bugling or cow calling.  It's considering "harrassing" the elk (this is their interpretation, not mine - I consider it "fun".)  Not sure if they'd actually give you a ticket or not...I just listen and don't call so I've never had the problem of having the park people talk to me about it.  But I know someone who did get a scolding.   :dunno:  Not sure I'd be that intimidated but, as I understand it, they can give you a ticket for it.

There are a lot of good audio CDs out there you can get and just practice while you're driving around.

:yeah: I 2nd it.. I do all my practice in the truck while driving to and from work. Lots of time on your hands while driving. I don't suggest using a tube while driving though, lots of people look at you really weird plus it not that safe  :chuckle: . If your just learning, pick up a CD and try to mimic it or just listen to it. Can be helpful.
A bad day in the woods is better than a good day at work.

Years ago we took the kids to NW Trec in October. It was raining so I grabbed my Gore-Tex hunting jacket, while we were there I found my mouth reed in one of the pockets, so I figured why-not!!!  :chuckle:. As we went by the elk I did some cow calls and a little bugle. All the elk looked up and the bull chuckled back, then started walking our way (got with in 10yrds). All of the Asian tourist freaked out and ran to the other side of the tram, it was awesome  :chuckle: . My kids loved it

used to practice outside until I over heard my neighbors say "he's making stupid animal noises."  so now I practice in the shop.  Those neighbors complain about everything... :bash:

That's what videos are for :) You can always get Elknuts sounds of the elk CD and playbook if you want to know the different sounds and what they mean. Knowing what sounds you are making is the most important. It's easy to sound like an elk, you just don't want to say the wrong thing at the wrong time and send them on their way :)

Good Luck!

Fulla
