Prepping for the season....
« on: August 22, 2011, 02:22:30 PM »
Since its been a while since I've gotten out with my shotgun ... I decided to do some pre-season warm-up on Sunday ... went to the gun club http://www.pbrsc.org/ and shot some trap ... beautiful day for it too

Forgot how much I missed shooting "competitively" ... forgot how much I love shooting trap ... forgot how bad I am at it LOL

Wish the range had skeet and/or sporting clays ... but I've always found trap harder for some reason ... never quite sure why

You should try 5-Stand. It's  a trap game designed to be more realistic of hunting situations... and is a lot better practice and lots more fun.   :)
Stan Marsh: "My Uncle Jimbo says we gotta get up there early. Right Uncle Jimbo?"

Jimbo: "That's right, Stanley. Animals are much easier to shoot in the morning."

I shoot 5 stand and sporting clays all the time. really fun. I like the duck towers even more. It reminds me that I have not shot a shotgun in 3 weeks :bash:.

Yeah ... I was brutally reminded that i hadn't shot one in almost a year :(

I am a member at the Kenmore range. Shoot 5 stand a lot. If you go there, try shooting a zero card. Random order. Single then 2 rounds of true doubles. So much fun if you are not shouldered.

Somebody explain this 5-stand for me please.  I've googled it and find a few youtube videos but nothing much.  The Lynden Shotgun Club has it and I think I'm going to go and check it out before the opener.  Hit Plantation this past weekend and was reminded too that I hadn't touched my shotgun since January!

This was the best explanation I found and explained the videos I found too

Five Stand is very similar to Sporting Clays in that a wide variety of targets are thrown. No two five-stands are exactly alike. There are five "stands" or stations to shoot from. There are usually somewhere between 6 and 8 traps that throw targets. Participants shoot in turn at each of the 5 stands and various combinations of targets are thrown from the traps. Usually there is a menu card that will advise the shooter of the sequence of targets. Five Stand is a great way to get a Sporting Clays like experience in a small amount of space, with very little walking.

Does anyone know if there are any clubs in Pierce county that has 5 stand? My son got to shoot 5 stand up at the Seattle Skeet & Trap club and it looked like a blast.
