In that photo the dog is wearing a regular dog collar, tracking collar, and a tri-tronics training collar. We commonly run both a tracking and a training collar as insurance for better control of the situation. Since that photo was taken we have started putting a tracking or gps on the same collar as the training collar so that the dog is wearing one less collar.

Here's a cat from last December near Colville. This cat walked out of a guys driveway across the highway and into another driveway, then followed the driveway to the house, walked between the house and the garage and headed up the hill. We waited for daylight, got permission, and it was a pretty quick race. First picture we are getting the dogs tied back, we always tie back the dogs so they don't get hurt if the cat hits the ground wounded. 2nd picture is the cat, not an easy bow shot. The 3rd picture shows the results, one neighborhood lion eliminated. Dogs are ready to head back to the truck.

with the tri tronics you use it so the dog will come back when your done hunting, or is it used to coax them on a trail or both or neither haha?

We have the tri-tronics with the adjustable level and beep option on the handheld transciever. We have trained our dogs that the beep is a warning, when you are walking with the dogs if one happens to stray to far away and doesn't respond quickly by voice command a quick beep gets immediate attention.

Hounds can be a little more gamie than preferred at times, especially young dogs. With the tri tronics on them all the time you always have control should any dog get on any type of game they should not be after. I can remember chasing trashing hounds down on foot back in the late 70's and early 80's long before I had my first tri-tronics. I have litterally ran bck and forth across the mountain and then hid in th bushes as coyotes ran by and then caught the trailing dogs when they came through and scolded them heavily. That was the old way and it wasn't easy. I love my tri-tronics and do not leave home without them. Like I said we try to run a tracking collar and tri-tronics on every dog, except for maybe an old dog that I really trust 99%, I learned a long time ago there is no such thing as 100% trash broke hound.  :chuckle:

The absolute best thing about tri-tronics training collars is that you can always be the good guy. When your dogs do wrong you can stimulate them and then praise them when they come to you. This way you are always the good guy. In the old days trying to break a trashy dog was tough, half the time they became shy about coming to you if you weren't careful. Now you can alsways be the good guy.  :chuckle:

Wow like I knew of tri tronics but I never knew you could solve all those problems out in the field with it. When you buy the tri tronics is there videos and stuff on how to you it like you said with the beeps and stuff, cuz I train horses not dogs so I would probably need some help? Haha

They include a manual, or you can always get on here and ask questions if the manual is confusing. I never read it, I just learned by trial and error over the years and talking with other hounders.

I have always thought that these collars would be great for training certain things with horses, but you would have to be very careful as horses are far more sensitive than hard headed hounds. I think mostly the beep and maybe the level 1 or 2 stimulation would be all that's ever needed. :chuckle:

I wonder if anyone has ever tried them on a horse or mule....  :dunno:

Somethinf like that witg a horse would make alot of things easier since with certain training with a horse your pretty much doing what the collar would do only manually. Whats is the tritronics that you use, im in college and hunting is a hobby but it souds like I can really use this along with gps of course since my pup is real young.

We have the 2 mile range with intesity level or beep adjustable on the transmitter. Can't remember the model. If you look at their options, you will figure out which one. I am not sure you need 2 mile range for beagles, but these last for years and if you buy the best it is good for a long time. I am thinking the transmitter and 1 collar was about $400 or so. Then each additional collar up to 6 is an extra $150 or so, and you can add extra collars at any time in the future up to 6.

I would never turn a dog loose without a gps or tracking collar. We often run both since the gps require closer range to read your dog collar.
