Well... Have wanted redbones ever since I was a kid and read "Where the red fern grows".
Couldn't have any hounds growing up. My parents weren't the outdoors type and we weren't what you would call "well off". Hounds cost big $$. ;)

After I got out of the Corps, my wife and I had mutts. Great dogs, but still wanted redbones.
We lost the last of our mutts a couple of years ago, So I figured it was time. I wanted my kiddos to experience them before they moved out.

I started searching for them in Washington and found that there are very few around. Alot of blue ticks, black & tans, and walkers, but redbones are scarce up here. Found a breeder out of Issaquah, but his sire was used as old dan in the latest Where the red fern grows movie. They wanted too much and had to get the pups fixed.

So I decided to get a breeding pair from out of state to get another redbone line going up here. Got champion show and coonhunt bloodline from Texas a little over a year ago. Couldn't be happier.

Had thought about gettin with some friends that have hunted dogs in the past to train them, but what's the point around my neck of the woods anymore.

Ask any questions, I might have an answer. ;)

Great reply..... I love that movie.

I hope you get a chance to hunt them, it's a shame you can't hunt them like it used to be. There are a lot of raccoon in western Washington, maybe you can hook up with someone who has access to some good coon hunting.   :twocents:

Here are a couple of shots of our 15" beagle we got in Catskill, NY.  He's 3 years old now and finally "chilling out"...to a degree.  I hunted him on rabbit in Connecticut, but haven't had him out since I moved here a month ago.  He has raised hell with the ones around the house who have figured out his tricks, and have him all kinds of flustered.  Very funny to watch, but I think he's ready to start hitting the field again.  Any suggestions for bunny busting in S Kitsap / N Mason counties? :dunno:

Just  heads up, hounds make terrible fishing partners. I took mine out and she kept striking off the boat, had to tie her up so she wouldn't jump off lol

BP dont some of the collars now have a combined gps and shock collar combo? that way you can track down your dog with a map overlay?

I'm not sure, hunters would like 1 unit, but I do not know if one is available. Equipment has been changing, maybe someone else has more info....

Tritronics has teamed up with garmin - or rather garmin bought out TT

both of which I really like, so I hope to see some great Ecollars with GPS in them.
