neck mounting a doe
« on: August 26, 2011, 07:40:24 AM »
Now I'm not trying to count my chickens before they hatch but I know  for sure that my girlfriend will be able to take a doe this archery season(private land with does everywhere). Not saying she will or won't but if she does I was thinking about trying to neck mount it, being a first deer for her. Now I read a lot of how to's about mounting bucks but never found one about doe's. Do you cut the same "y" cut down 5he head? I found this kit online and was considering it (link below). Now I'm not a professional nor am I looking for that professional look. i just thought it would be fun to try. If we shoot a nice  buck I might try and save the money to get it done but don't want to pay 400 for a doe mount.

Where are you located ? I could help you out on that doe if need be, it would probably be the easiest way as I can show you steps I take in doing a mount . I dont have a problem helping someone that wants to try it on there own, its a good way to learn to actually see or have help along the way. On a doe Id just tube it and try  it that way, you can always split it later if it wont go over the head.

I  live in yakima. Would a kit be cost effective for $140? I was starting to think maybe a shoulder mount might  be a better look than a neck mount.

Yeah , defintely go with the shoulder as it really isnt much more work and they look much better.

I would highly recommend having the cape profesionally tanned as it will help you out a ton and just be a nicer piece to work with. Everything needs to be turned , fleshed and salted first. Do you have any experiance with this step?? Its an important one . If you were closer I would be able to help out with your materials as I have everything but the form in house.
