this is a hound story, not hunting but 100% bluetick. when i got my last hound i was taking him to my parents house to show him off and on the ride he managed to get him self stuck in the seat wires of my 94 toyota pickup well after a hour struggle we had to remove the seat and cut 2 wires to finnaly free him  :yike: !!!! it was really bad, but to this day that dog will not touch the floor of the truck he jumps right onto the seat every time! i never let a small pup rid on the floor again  :bdid:. thanks for letting me share

Well here it goes,

A few years back my old huntin partner and me treed a coon just off the road. It was raining like a cow pissin on a flat rock. It was an easy walk to the tree and we spotted the coon right off the bat, so I tell keith go ahead and shoot it out and he starts loading his 22. well he takes a good aim and pulls the trigger, well unknown at that time but our ammo was soaked and 22. ammo isnt watter proof. so the first shot comes out like a bottle rocket the bullet wisses away and we see the unburnt powder leave the berral and then ignite that was cool lookin but not what we were tyring to do, after about the six shot or so and no better results we were about to leash up and go back to the truck and that old sow coon decided to jump out of the tree, this is where it gets fun so the coon takes off and crosses the road and sounds like it tree's again.  We were on a river bottom and now were on a muddy steep hill. Well on our way up to the tree my old buletick boon sounds muffled and then is gone, Hmmm thats never good so we get up there close and can hear old boon but cant see him. we get over to an old growth stump and its all hollowed out and boon is down inside it. remember its raining so hard it hurts the eyes to look up. Well now we have boon and he in under ground by at least six feet s. So I had to get that old dog out of there and the only thing to do was climb down inside and take a look.Once inside I was way over my head andI'm 6'5" tall,There wasnt as much room as I first had thought and as sooon as I could I pushed boone out to keith, well this old den was deep and as soon as boon was out of the way I could see the coon lookin me in the eye, I hollered at kieth to hand down the 22. I figured old boon earned this one and at very close range was able to put this coon out with one shot, and I was uncertain if one of out wet ammo shots had conected on this animal and wasnt going to let it suffer if a shot had connected.

When i was about 12 or so i was headed down back to go fishing in one of our ponds and as usual my favorite bluetick "Cricket" was along for the walk. She was wandering around following her nose around the field as hounds do. I see her jumping around and pouncing which i had never seen her do before. Normally with little rodents it was one chomp and down the hatch. This was peculiar. It had been raining for a few days and one of our pond had reached the overflow. when it did it flushed a few trout out into the low spots in the field and they were flopping around in the few inches of water that collected there. The dog was trying to catch the fish! She wasn't quite sure what to make of this critter in the water that was slippery instead of furry. I wish i had gotten it on tape or at least took pictures of my trout hound's confused look. I sure miss that dog.

One of my most memorable hunts was when I went into a bayed bear many years ago... he'd been walking and fighting for hours... there were probably 10-12 dogs on him, and 8-10 of these dogs were very experienced dogs. Dogs that have killed bears on the ground more than once. I figured this was going to be  a big old mean *censored* and was really pumped when I was getting close. It was fairly open timber and I get up close to the dogs and see that they are spread out maybe in a 20 yard circle or so and I look in there and here's this 80 pound bear walking along. Adrenaline took over as he was obviously a bad ass little bear. I couldn't believe he had these dogs this buffalo'd... they wouldn't get CLOSE to him. Again, I've seen slightly bigger bears stretched on the groud with this same pack of dogs and I've seen the same dogs bite 225# bears...

I walked up to this bear, who was just walking real slow with his head down and stuck my 30-30 up to his nog and pulled the trig. Game over. Just couldn't understand what the heck that bear had going for him...
