Grouping Question
« on: August 29, 2011, 08:40:21 AM »
Got a winchester muzzy from a friend to use for my son. I shoot a Black Diomand XR. I use 100 gr. Powder and 300gr. Bullet I had him shhot the same load couldnt get good group, so went down to 90 gr. powder for the winchester. Shot 4 inch. right but perfect elevation. 3rd shot perfect . Could it be just movement or what. This is at 100yards zeroed. Shot it at 50 yards and good shot but high.

If its not the shooter, you might try a different bullet as well.  These smokepoles can be pretty finicky.  Keep at it, you'll find a combo that groups well.  keep in mind, the odds of the Winchester liking the same load as your XR is pretty slim.  Another option is to sell the Winchester and get your son an XR.  I have one as well and absolutely love the thing, get 1.5" groups with 90gr of 777 ffg and a 300gr Hornady SST.  Just my  :twocents: , take it for what its worth.

If its shooting consistently at 50 yards I blame the poor grouping at 100+ on myself.  Tough at 100 yards to shoot a real close group at 100 without lots of practice.  I started doing much better with a peep sight.

Make certain that the action is tight in the stock and that there is not excessive room around the recoil lugs. Movement of the action in the stock can cause shot to shot issues you are experiencing also.
Smoke em when ya see em!
