80gr gmx 243 load?
« on: September 04, 2011, 08:52:13 PM »
Anyone played with the 80gr gmx yet? Got some coming and I'm thinking of using some h414 or imr4064.

I have used 414 with lighter bullets, it would be on the edge of too fast with a 80 gr.....could go either way. I get good velocity out of the 4831 with 85gr tsx. I tried varget too but could not get close to speed without overdosing.

Well I got the bullets now to start working up a load, they look long for a 80gr I hope they shoot well.

Well finally got some loaded up and made it to the range. I started at 43.5grs of h414 and let's say it wasn't a pretty group at 9" next was 44gr and the group shrank to 7-8". The 44.5 and the group came in more to about 4". I was starting to doubt these shooting well. I loaded up max load of 45grs and tried it. I was shocked the group jumped to .75"!! No signs of pressure at all too. I thought about going up more but figured it was good with .75" group. I'll hunt the range again and really try to see how good it will shoot of a better rest.

thats pretty good, crazy what a grain or two of powder will do to groups.

No crono yet but next year I'll have one. I have a mossberg 100atr. The thing is basically a savage and shots very well, it's light short and quick to point for coyotes.

I think I have a 20" barrel. And getting a gen velocity would help with the ballistics calculation. I'm thinking it's around 3200
