My dream Big Bull hunt
« on: September 05, 2011, 01:11:51 PM »
There are two things that every hunter dreams of when they draw a once in a lifetime archery tag... wolves and team mossback. I have both. Yes friends, team mossback and I are sharing a parking spot. Team mossback...AKA Team: doesn't know the area, is tresspassing all over the place, has a posse of trucks in search of the "finders fee" bull. In spite of all of that I was having a pretty good time hunting around, having some close calls with some small quiet bulls. Scouted an area midday on Friday and found some good sign, went back Sunday morning and found... WOLF tracks everywhere!! They had not been there the day before and there were a pair of them running together, we saw no elk. I have witnesses and most people I've spoken to have seen tham over the past 5 days. Several people have trailcamera pictures, trailcameras that are VERY far apart. I have heard wolves howling almost every night of the hunt. Now that I have vented a little bit I'm still having a good time and am very much looking forward to the rest of my hunt! However as a person who spends a good majority of his time in Idaho talking to small businesses and outfitters... watching stores go out of business, watching people selling their outfitting businesses or quiting the game all together, these wolf sightings make me sad for the future of elk hunting in the Blue Mountains.   -MM

Remember wolves only kill sick and weak animals and will never target a  healthy bull elk   :tun

Sorry to hear Mossback are up their old tricks again now in Washington. Someone should let them know this isn't Utah.

Good luck am sure you will fill your tag. Keep us updated

The rumors of the wolves have been around awhile, I am sure it will get worse..
And I can't say that the Team Mossback thing suprises me at all. I can officially say now that there is a eye witness " I told you so".

Please do your best to decrease the population while you are there.  Wolves or elk right?  Well........S.S.S.

Yeah WDFW says no wolfs in the blues. I hope you are successful. Have you ran into any problems with Mossback blocking roads and other rumors about them. You should take some pictures with them and of their trucks so others here know what to look for.  :chuckle:

I saw what appeared to be a Mossback rig on Saturday..  Older Red Chevy 3/4 extended cab red with Utah Plates,  I was going up skyline and noticed tracks of someone just pooping along road hunting.  Finally caught up to the described vehicle.  One person in the rig.

I was in the neighborhood looking for sasquatch saturday and sunday and was lucky enough not to see any Utah plates but they have rubbed a few locals raw already. As for the wolves, they are monitored by f&w a lot closer than you may think.  ;)

That's exactly what I told him, gave him a pic of a Utah plate so he knew exactly who to go for.  :chuckle:

I just talked to a very good legal source that Mossback left today, He says they have not done anything wrong but the volume of people that Team mossback has , well has pissed some people off .   The bull they were after went into property they do not have permission to hunt on.  They will be back however.. Oh and that they are only here because the tag holder went to them for their help. I am hoping it is a one time thing.... I am wishing he would of used our local outfitter for help rather then them but thats just me.

:yeah: That is what gets me. Alot of great outfitters here in Washington and he probably paid twice as much to have mossback come up here. Atleast the Washington Outfitters know the land, who owns it and what the local like and don't like.
