I'm sorry first off i just need to rant. went down on the third set up camp done a little walking see a few elk stayed the next 2 days there. before i ever left the house i had everything set up and should have ran smoothly for everyone. then i get the damn call. :bash:  :bash:  :bash: 19:00 my babysitter had something come up and bailed on me so I'm setting on my front porch with a spotting scope looking at mount Rainer maybe i will get lucky and see an elk. I'm not made about my sitter having things coming up just suck to have this nice of weather and not be in the wood.

You're blaming cell phones because your babysitter bailed on you? Funny. I do know how that feels. Sometimes I hate that my wife can get a hold of me while I'm on a hunting trip. I miss the pre-cell phone days when once I was gone, I was gone, and didn't have to worry about anything other than hunting until I got home.

@bobcat, just turn the damn thing off! I usually set mine to airplane mode so I can still check the time and use it as an alarm clock but it won't search for signal.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

It doesn't travel to elk or deer camp with me. My wife see's me when I get back. Some things are non negotiable man.

The best thing about my elk camp is there is no cell phone service for 30 miles towards the nearest town.

I'm not so much blaming my cell but Ive only had a cell for a few years now and it would have been 5 years ago there would have been no finding me. i have just been aggravated today setting on my front porch watching the sun come up. i was just ranting

When I get serious about a hunting or fishing trip, the cell phone either doesn't come along, or stays turned OFF until I need to make a call.

It all depends on who is trying to reach you.
My wife could not get a hold of me, so she called the sheriff, who called out search and rescue.
I still cringe when I remember seeing my picture in the paper.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

1 of my favorite places has no reception so it's nice to not have my phone ringing. but I like to use for a camera that I can send pictures of success to friends & family before we get home.

I've come to one conclusion:  If all the cell phone towers suddenly go dead, the suicide rate will skyrocket!

Any time I go hunting in an area my wife is not familiar with, the service is bad until I get "5 miles or so back towards town."  :chuckle: :chuckle:

Add me to the hate list, yes I use mine a lot and it's very useful but I still hate the damn things.  Do you guys ever feel them vibrate when you don't even have them on you? It happens to me the first few days of hunting when I'm without it.
