White U-Mag+Birds+Rock Pit
« on: September 07, 2011, 02:44:26 PM »
To me that should be a winning combination... the only real weak link in the formula is me!

I was unable to slip to do some elk hunting this morning - had to help Terry load up for her trip to Kennewick, then decided I shoud go to the 'PIT'

I have not shot the White in a long time so thought it was due... grabbed the White and shooting stuff and headed out.

When I got to the pit it was already warming up but decided, no matter what I was going to get some shooting in.

I walked 8 birds (that is what come out of the box when I opened it) to the wall and placed them on their perches.

The book! says it is sighted in with a 110 grains of T7-2f and a 300 grain bullet, so I stayed with the 110 grain formula, but decided to start with a 41-210 grain Speer Deep Curl in a MMP blue sabot.  Since the U-mag 504 is a large bore I felt the load combination would load well.  It was a bit snug but not really a problem.

Things went swimmingly with the first round of birds and the 210 Deep Curls.  So I walked another 6 birds down to the wall and decided my next bullet would be a Lehigh 50 cal Sabotless DOA.  Shooting the same 110 grains of T7-2f... That went so well i walked another 6 down and went after them with the same bullet.  I really am impressed with the Lehigh 50 cal Sabotless - I just hope Dave gets time to get back to them.

After the last 6 of the sabotless - i was still wanted to do more shooting... so back down to the wall with 6 more birds and next up in the bullet department was the Lehigh .452-250 gr. DOA...

6 birds 6 bullets - same results...

I still wanted to shoot some more so I surveyed the wall looking for shootable bird chips... found a pocket of 3 chips that would work very well.  In fact the chip on the low left was exactly a shot I was looking for... it was laying nearly flat out on the edge of a rock.  If I shot low I would hit the wall below the chip and would get no hit results.  If I shot high, left, or right of the chip there would also be a good chance it would not show any results...  So the became my 'shot of the day'

Decided to go to the sabotless to get this last 3 shot opportunity done... 3 shots and it was done...

I hope the pictures of the 'Chip Shooting' show up well enoght for you see...

But in all WHITE'S Shoot Great!!!!
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

That is Awesome. I have a few Whites and I must say that those results are more common than not. After a while it kind of gets boring NOT!

As usual Sabotloader awesome shooting and report thanks.

I can't wait. I bought a .451 Super 91 (1 in 24 twist) recently. Sorry Whitelightning I wanted yours but stumbled on this one at local gun shop for ($cheap$). It's a stainless/synthetic thumbhole with scope. Had to have the gun shop repair some crown damage. Got it back and it had new damage to the stock so it's back to the gunsmith for another repair on their dime. I cannot hardly wait to get it back! Your pictures are making me drool

topofthefoodchain no problem that one found a home in Michigan. That Super91 should be a shooter also, try starting with 70gr T7 ffg and a 460gr conical and I bet that rifle puts a group together for you.
