Its tuff we put in almost 15 miles yesterday and about half of it was in nasty stuff. checked a ton of quality areas but could not find any fresh sign. Very tuff hunting, i think in my case most have headed to the other side "the rez" to beat the heat and stay cooler in the shadow of the mountains.

tonight the bulls lit up for the first time all year..the herd I was hunting has atleast 15 animals in it...silent the whole time tried to ambush them at a bench into a clearcut..almost worked.had elk as close as 10 yards with no shots!

bombed out this year and am pretty disappointed. Some guys killed a bull about 100 yards from my stand after I'd been talking to him for an hour. I got close to a bear but no shot. Maybe I'll go out a weekend in the late season. Time to clean gear and get back to work.

I talked to a couple guys by Mt St helens who had trail cams up all week.The elk showed up between 1am and 4am every night.
