Field care for a full size raccoon mount
« on: September 14, 2011, 08:38:22 PM »
What is the best way to care for a coon if I want to have a full size mount done? Should I skin it, or leave it to the pros?

I've got a couple of big raccoons that have been tearing up the kids' cats for a few days now. My wife was out there throwing the kids' toys at them a couple days ago until I told her that wasn't a good idea. I shot one already, but the other one is just asking to be stuffed. :chuckle: I probably won't shoot it until Friday night so that I have time to deal with it without needing to go into work.

:dunno:  Don't you mean Blue?  They get green belly if you leave the skin on them to long.

Thanks for the tips. Maybe I just need to trap him and keep him as a pet for a few months until the hide is ready. :chuckle: My wife already named this one Wally, so he's already part of the family  That said, Wally's going down as soon as it's convenient for me. :chuckle:
