Newbie looking for some direction
« on: September 22, 2011, 09:46:23 PM »
Hey guys,
I am new to deer hunting, and this will be my second season trying.  I am planningon heading over to the entiat unit to scout for places to hunt the first weekend of modern firearm season.  Any direction in places I should start would be greatly appreicated, just getting my feet wet, and open to any advice people are willing to give.  Not looking for anyone's special spot, but was wondering if there are roads I should start on and head out from there.
Thanks,
Dave

Head up entiat river road.  There are a number of spur roads that will take you up higher.  Find a good place to park and start walking into the timber.....

when you ask for roads to start on, many people take that as an intrusion to their special spot. The thing that needs to be taken into consideration is where the deer will be. If the weathers hot look in the timber during the day, the entiat has plenty of pockets you shouldnt have any problems finding deer just have to look around. People that have hunted the area for years still have to spend a day or two finding where the deer are at, they can be in one spot one year then mysteriously vanish only to pop up in the next drainage over.

Thank you both for the advice, as I said, not looking for "any special spot" where the deer are.   But rather roads to locate on the map for me to start my scouting/homework with.  I will head up the river road and start there. I am really hopefully to finally get my first deer, and am willing to do all the homework needed....Wish me luck....
Thanks,
Dave
