youth hunt success
« on: September 26, 2011, 11:17:07 AM »
Well I was able accompany my 14 year old brother, Dad and a family friend with his 13 year old boy for some waterfowl and pheasant action.  it  is my brothers second season and he shot 5 ducks and the friend got 4 on his first trip ever.  It was kinda cool because they got into a lot of species, so they kind of got a duck identification 101 class right there on the water. they ended up shooting 1 eclipse drake mallard, 1 ruddy duck, 3 greenwing teal, 1 goldeneye, 1 bufflehead, 1 northern shoveler and 1 gadwal.... it started to die down by about 9:30 so we permitted one of the boys to wack a coot, simply in the name of close examination as to why we don't call it a duck... ugly little buggers...  I was really impressed with the way they shot, those GWT are hard to hit  even for adults and they killed every bird pretty much stone dead...dogs did well too for their first trip of this season.  then we went for some pheasants and were able to harvest 2 roosters out of the 5 that we saw.   all in all it was a great trip and a good time...but holy crap was it a scorcher out their ...I was real glad to get out of my waders...and glad that my dad treated us to ice cream

If it looks fishy, fish it. If it doesn't look fishy, fish it anyway!
