Went back up to the N.E. this weekend with a tip from a fellow member. I was
only about 100 yards into the woods poking along a boggy area off an old skidder road
when I decided to stop and listen for a bit. When I did, I looked to my left and spotted a blackie
looking at me at about 60 yards! I got my 7mm up and just as I got it in my scope
trying to place the crosshairs on the vitals it ran off!

Another second and I would have
squeezed away! That got the heart pumping as I have yet to harvest my first bear!
I never heard that bear until after it decided to run off. Just luck that I happen
to stop when I did and look off to my left. I am thinking that it was just waiting for me to move on
until it realized I saw him??
I also thought I heard a bull moose? Not sure what time of the year moose rut but I heard a long
moan and then several short ones about 3-5 minutes apart...Sounded like the ones I have heard
on moose hunting videos and cannot think of anything else that might sound like that?? I also saw
one lone cow moose and watched a coyotes failed attempt at a grouse. Good weekend!!
