Are Grouse considered a game bird???????
« on: September 19, 2011, 04:41:52 PM »
I'm just thinking out loud.
They are not listed as a game bird under state or fed. rules, they are listed as a small game.

Can you hunt them with a shotty with more than 3 rnds??
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

They are a game bird, just not an "upland game bird".

So by WDFW's definition, they are not a "game bird" but a "forest grouse".  OK

I'm still not sure about the maximum three shot rule. I'm pretty sure it still applies but I could be wrong.

Incorrect.

WAC 232-12-044 (1) states that blue, spruce, and ruffed grouse ARE game birds AND are also considered forest grouse.

WAC 232-12-047 (2) states it is unlawful to hunt game birds with a shotgun capable of holding more than three shells.
