Lake trout?
« on: September 27, 2011, 07:28:30 PM »
I caught this today in the yakima and I am not completely confident in my fish identification. It most resembles a lake trout? Its mouth looked a little funny and I really suck at fishing and fish identification so it wouldn't shock me if I am way off base.

I think it might be a whitefish, they have small mouths.  You might want to be careful about keeping a fish you cannot identify though....

I knew it was legal because I knew it was either a whitefish or a lake trout(not a complete moron), its just over 12 inches so its legal if its a trout, and there are no size or daily limit for whitefish, I had the fishing regs with me.. It just looks a lot like a lake trout to me but im not convinced its not a whitefish. It looks to dark to be a whitefish to me but I am not sure how much the color varies in whitefish. I have been looking at pictures on google and im still not convinced one way or the other.

I guess I will go with popular opinion and call it a whitefish.

That is good that you knew it was legal, but unless if that lake trout has a mutant disease, then it is a whitefish  :chuckle:
