Lookout Wolf Pack - Methow
« on: September 28, 2011, 12:50:38 PM »
So is it the Lookout pack that is by Carlton in the Methow?  I heard from a guy that has a place up there that they caught wolves on a trail cam eating a deer carcass.  Also, some locals told me that they can hear them up there howling.
Explains why I can't find any frickin deer up there this year.  Steadily getting worse and worse every year.  Spent all weekend up Gold Creek and surrounding areas and not one deer.  Saw a sow and two cubs, that's it.

I ran into wolves about 3 years ago up Benson Creek. Two of them, one black, one white, about 2 miles from the nearest road. I hear they're becoming quite a problem there.

The Benson group is the Unofficial split of the Lookout pack.   Right now the lookout pack is higher in the mountains (I believe), and isn't around Carlton at the moment.   I believe the official opinion is that they are Up Warcreek, towards the pass, however there are some that believe these are different wolves.

I have a place down on the river and I'll definitley keep everyone informed if I come across any wolves up in the hills.  I usually hunt up Libby, but not sure what i'm doing now that we aren't seeing much for deer.  Maybe the deer are up higher still, but we usually have locals around and not even seeing them except for the east side of hwy 153, there is a group of does up that way.  lots of yotes up there too.

I think the locals hearing the wolves howling up there was early in the year or last winter, not sure though.
