RIP Caesar
«

Last night I got a call from the wife and kids. Our 7 year old male chihuahua turned up missing. Pretty sure the culprit was a coyote as one was seen near the house in the neighbors pasture. My wife took the kids to school this morning and when she came back home their was a coyote next to my truck. My son is so mad he wanted to come home from school today, call them, and shoot them up. Since I am working swing shift I told my wife to have him lay off unless he sees one in plain sight as I want them dead and not educated. RIP Caesar if you would have been bigger your attitude would have kicked their ass. This is war.

This is going on around my place right now
bad part is there isn't any way to shoot them unless I get this one guy to let me call on his land. Ive lost a cat and others around me have lost lots of cats and a few small dogs, I'm just glad my Shepperd is big enough to keep them away from the lower yard and my wheaten terrier

Thanks guys. Out in the country where we are we have always had coyotes. This year, however, must have been a banner year as when they light up you can hear a lot of pups howling. I will get them or may need to call Rasbo in to set up some traps. Huntbear I will definitely keep ya in mind.

Yeah I have been hearing them also. Sorry for your loss. But I did see one on the side of the road on 224th and looks like it lost a battle with a car.

Yote 1 Me 0

Well today I was looking out the window at the back pasture and thought I don't remember that stump being there. The stump then turned it's head. It was a coyote and it ran out of the trees into the pasture. I ran and grabbed the .223 and hoofed it out to the back to see if the coyote was still there and it was. The yote had only come out to the edge of the pasture and had bedded down in a hollow with a bunch of branches around it. I couldn't take a far shot because there was two cross fences in between me and the yote, so I snuck out to the travel trailer, then over old Hudson, and from there to the fence line. The whole time the coyote is looking everywhere. Once I got to the fence I only moved when he was looking behind him until I put a big tree between the yote and I. I was going to use the tree as a rest once I got there and then I would be able to shoot over the last fence. As I got to the tree and tried to stand up the coyote saw me and locked on to my movement. I was excited to say the least. My heart was pounding and I decided to try and off hand shot. First shot safety on dang it. Safety off and then took a bead on mister coyotes head because it was the only thing I could see and promptly missed an 80+ yard shot. The yote took off like a bat out of hell and educated to boot. I wish it hadn't caught me and given me time to set up against the tree. I would have been higher up and could have calmed myself down. It was fun and it is not over yet as I have to avenge Caesar. Still haven't tried calling yet, so I am going to do that as the yotes are not educated to that. Where that coyote was laying was a perfect spot to scoop up a little dog. All our dogs come in the pasture on the west side and the coyote was laying on the east side. One of the chihuahuas entering the pasture by themselves would have been toast which is what I think happened to Caesar and if it would have been a big dog the yote would have made the safety of the trees.
