Huckleberry Unit?

What's up fellow hunters?
New to posting here and enjoy reading everyone's adventures and pics.  I am headed to Huckleberry Unit this fall to a relatives property but don't know the area at all.  I am not sure where to go (except the relatives place) and what I will find.  It sounds like there is muleys and whitetails in the area but not sure of the percentages. 
This is my step son's first year and am hoping to start with a little success.   Any ideas or info would be greatly appreciated.

I know a guy that has 55 acres or so in that unit and from what I have heard there is alot more WT deer then MD, I am sure that the mix goes either way at different elevations though.

Elevation plays a role, but I have seen both clear down to the valley, but it is rarer to see a Muley there.
There are some areas where it is like a wall.  All you see is Whiteys, then you hit the wall and they are all Mulies.

Stevens county has a really good GIS program and WDFW GoHunt is a good resource for mapping out public land.  There's lots of good country over there and you should be able to find some game.

This should be a good hunt for your step son. Assuming he is under 16, he can shoot any white tailed deer.

Huckleberry is filthy with whiteys, like whats been said earlier the mulies tend to be higher and the two don't seem to overlap too much. At least in the area I hunt. Lots of bears there and thousands upon thousands of other hunters. I don't even mess with deer there since they changed late buck down south to draw only. It's just too crowded. But since you've got private ground that helps.

I have property there and hunt there every year, have for many years. Have access to tons of private property. I find lots of both deer types, they tend to move about at different times of the years. MD tend to winter by the river and move up spring time, the WT seem to stay where they live.
PM me if you want, there is tons of land open to the public. some guys post land that is not theres to post and some roads to public land look private.
