Who is heading out of state for pheasant/sharp tails?
« on: September 08, 2011, 10:23:50 PM »
Anyone planning on a road trip? If so post up where you are going. I usually go to eastern Montana but they've had two rotten springs. Been thinking of SD or ND or even as far as Kansas. SD has lower than normal numbers but that still beats WA and Oregon on their best bird count.
Let's hear where you are or may be heading.
Thanks,
Scott

Like you we hunt E. MT and they had a brutal winter and very wet spring, more water than any of the locals can remember.  Bird numbers way down.  We are going to try SD for the first time.  Suprisingly it is only a 2hr longer drive for us to get to central SD than where we hunt in MT because the roads are so much better getting there.

If your hunting public land in SD be sure you take plenty of Nontoxic according to the SD regs.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I have yet to make it to MT or SD to kill some roosters but it is definitely in my plans for the near future! Good luck to all that's getting out of state!

AWS, when you heading out? I plan on 1st or so of Nov. Got to find a list of open camp grounds or BLM land to camp on. We are looking at Mobridge and south to a town I can't remember but have it saved in my email messages.
I was looking at water fowl but I guess you need to enter a lottery b/4 you can hunt & that was in June!!!!

Heading to North Dakota in conjunction with my Antelope trip to Wyoming in October. Should be awesome.

I would be willing to consider another trip to ND in November/December/January depending on my schedule. Would probably try and make it a double trip for birds and back to Idaho for some Wolf.

had planed on a trip to ND this year, but the economy has squashed that.  Hopefully I'll make it next year.

Be in E MT for the ringnecks opening on Saturday and plan to harrass a few sharptails during the week also. Not sure about the bird numbers, six weeks of flooding this spring was bad. I understand that anyplace flat in the state was covered with water this spring. But we'll go see all our friends and have a good time none the less.

Hunt hard and shoot straight!

We are heading back to SD in Nov.  Hunted in December last year and had a blast.  Lots of shooting and even killed a few.   We hunt south of Highmore, which is east of Pierre about 45 miles.  Numbers are down according to the state, but from what I here the numbers on the farm that we are hunting aren't too bad.
