hound hunters, the wife got a very interesting email from wdfw today.

I got the email as well.
Its hard to say, when the public saftey removal first came out there were lots of tags near or over 100. And then the pilot program came out and the tags dropped down to just a few. Maybee just maybee the wdfw has jumped up the # of tags to compensate for the loss of the piolet program.

I'll put in for it just to see how many tags are being drawn.

How I understand this is that you get put on a list and if and when they have an "issue" you will get a call. If you dont respond they go down the list until they have someone to come throw dogs down on a problem cat wich will more than likely be within city limits somewhere..... its not a hunt like the previouse tags you could draw. I beleive they have had this list for quite a few years. Its a Joke.

Actually it was the other way around, the Public Safety permits were just a few, then the pilot program they were issuing around 100+ permits.

The likely result is that a bunch of guys without dogs will put in and get on the list and those of us with hounds to keep up will keep bitching about the states crazy regulations.

I have a lil different take on this, im very happy that they kept this program going. I think the wdfw prob went through alot of trouble to keep this program alive I thank them for that. I hope they will build on this program and expand our hound hunting opportunitys. As long as we keep the guides out and limit the draw to hound owners only I think this program could really improve in a few years. I know what these tags are like in years, so no need to inform me lol, but I think this program has the potential to provide us with some good chances to run our dogs.

I hope your right, BUT I think you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Keep in mind this is NOT the same as the permits we were able to draw and hunt. This is a depredation type permit from what I gather. When and if they have a problem cat they will contact you and you try and kill that cat that is the problem? I could be wrong but pretty sure that is the deal??? This is the thing they first started years ago, Before the good permits were available.

I know its wishful thinking, but I think our game dept has people that want to use hounds for lion management. I can see them building on this though, and I can only hope they do. The downfall to the pilot program was allowing the public to apply and letting guides take advantage of the opportunity to run there dogs, im positive it would still be around if those two things hadn't taken place. My point is, if we keep the same idea that the pilot program used to have, being that this was for safety and problem cats, I see them expanding this into being like the pilot program we use to have. I'm trying to be optimistic lol
