Seward Halibut Guide/Charter
« on: October 02, 2011, 02:31:15 PM »
I'm planning a trip to Alaska next July and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a good guide/charter to hire for a couple days of halibut/salmon fishing.  I've been up there before and I dont want to do the typical charter where they throw 10-15 people on a boat and take you to a chicken hole for the day.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Try to reach Ryan at 3RiversMarine in Woodinville, WA.
He used to guide up there and may still.
I have another guide in mind,as well.
How big is your party?

Correction--I was thinking Sitka.

The only guy I would recommend is Bill Jones that runs "Admiral Charters".  I ran with him for 8 years straight while living there.  The best operator in Seward- Hands down.  He runs a big old Navy rescue boat, that he converted, twin diesels- it gets up and hauls butt for sure.  His boat could fish easy 12 but he will only book 6.  His customer service is spot on the best, my Dad went only twice and still receives a card from Bill each Christmas.  He really cares about what he does.  You won't get him being late or hung over and he is story teller that makes the trip so totally cool...  He is an older guy early 70's with his son middle 40's as deck hand.  Sorry but stay away from non-local guides or you're going to get chicken holes just outside the bay opening, ask if they are local  -aka residents guides..  And of course avoid those with the 20 client boats- chicken hole pros! Bill will tailor the trip for you, mid July is prime time for a great combo trip.  The best part of his trip is he plays Jaws music every time your into a 100+ fish...  He is a legend there in Seward!

That sounds great, Admiral Charters sounds exactly like what I'm looking for, do you have a good contact # or does he have a website that you can PM me?

Seward Chamber of Commerce or look it up on the web yellow pages.  He lives in Eagle River but stays in Seward all summer, one heck of a butcher also for those that need meat cut in the fall..  Oh and ask who consistently wins the derby in Seward if you happen to talk to the Chamber of Commerce?  Uhhh Bill is in the top five every year after year..
