Can you tell me where to hunt for coyote?
« on: October 13, 2011, 08:33:42 PM »
I'm new to predator hunting and curious about some good areas.  Ive been hunting elk and deer on the peninsula since I was a kid, but had no luck last year for dogs.  I'm located in Seattle so anywhere in the cascades would be great.  I have a buddy who
Lives in Wenatchee so that's another option.  It would be cool if I could tag along with a guy or party with some good spots.  Is there anybody in the greater Seattle area that could show a guythe ropes?  Thanks

Im not close to seattle, but with yotes they can pop up in places that are closer than you think.  If you have a Ecaller or access to one go out with a locater siren.  If you get replies then there around.  Yotes are very adaptive and smart, if they have any pressure they are harder to call in, just becuase you dont see them on a stand doesnt mean there not there.  I recommend going over to your buddies in Wentachee wehre the visibility is better than King County, or the Cascades has to offer. Look at some of the posts in the varmit secition, and there is a ton of knoweldge to learn from.  Post some pics of your upcoming hunt and stay safe

Hey T - welcome to the site. I came here about a year or so ago and found lots of good info and people to hunt with. One thing I noticed though, people arent really willing to give up alot of spots - and rightly so - until you get to know them a bit and do most of the legwork and research yourself, and again, thats to be undertsood. But I'm still new at the predator hunting but I met some good people and got alot of info just by reading and responding to posts. You'll figure alot out by that. I can tell you from my limited experience, these dang dogs seem like they are almost everwhere! I see them in town and around my neighborhood too! Check out some of the places you hunt for big game and just scout out other areas where its ok to shoot/hunt and look for the signs, tracks, scat, etc - and you will find them. And like seth says, get a caller and call out in some areas and see if you get a response. I seem to hear them mostly at dusk and sometimes around 1st light too. Anyway - hope you find some soon!
I aint superstitious - cuz its bad luck!

If your looking for public, just head out I90 into the national forest.  I saw one across from Tiger Mt a few years back, but I am not sure you can hunt there anymore.  Last year it was shut down because of all the shooters littering.

They should be all over the place. Just go out and call the dumb pups might come in. Do it now before the rifle hunters teach them what guns are.
