Trap ID tags
« on: October 14, 2011, 05:53:34 PM »
I asked wdfw if there is a number I could use for my tarps. The reply is I might want to put my trappers number on my traps. Anyone here know if this would be my wild ID or maybe the number on my trapper education certificate?

I believe the number to use would be the number on your trapping license.  Mine is a six digit number.
It never changes, but it is always different.

You must use this 6 digit number unless something has changed.

Just goes to show you. I thought I knew the regs backwards and forwards.
Used to be you had to apply to the WDFW to get a department issued ID number. I actually got mine from the Department of Game so you can see it goes back aways. Mine is VAB833.
Looked through all the regs though and they have excised the part that used to deal with this so apparently it is the number on your trapping license.

Are the department of game issued numbers still still good? That is what i have always used and have never seen where they were canceled.

Sean had to check on it and just heard back from him today. He says WDFW quit issuing the Trap ID# but they are still OK to use so either your trapping license # or your department issued Trap ID# are OK to use.

The Furbearer Trapping season and Rules 10/1/2009 through 3/31/2012 states,"Trappers shall attach to the chain of their traps or devices a legible metal tag with either the WDFW identification number of the trapper or the name and address of the trapper in English letters no less than one-eigth inch in height."  Your WDFW number is also on the top of your hunting license and tags.

No, that is not correct.
You will get a ticket if you use the number at the top of your hunting license. That is the wild ID# which is different then  (the WDFW identification of the trapper).
It is poorly written and a bit confusing. That's why I had to check with enforcement.
The "WDFW identification of the trapper" is either your  trapping license # which is a 5 digit # or your Department issued trap ID# which is 3 letters and 3 digits.

We can make small tags with just the five digit # and not have name and address right?
